Homeschooling Responsibilities
While we are very excited to offer a number of programs, academics, enrichment, and events to our homeschooling families, it is important to note that Yellowwood Programs are not a replacement for school. Parents are ultimately responsible for their child’s learning and are legally required to register with the State of North Carolina as a homeschool.
Information on registering your homeschool can be found here.
Membership
Yellowwood Learning Community is a community space that provides opportunities and support to homeschoolers and their families. In order to attend Yellowwood classes, workshops, and events, registration is required. Memberships afford families multiple options for participation.
Becoming a member of Yellowwood is becoming a member of a larger community. We look forward to your participation and cooperation as we create a safe and loving space for your children and teens.
REGISTRATION is required for all activities. Registration requires basic information, agreeing to our policies and procedures, and making payment.
How to Join
To join, you must fill out the registration form and agree to the Policies and waivers attached. Payment is due to reserve your spot in any of our classes, workshops, or events. Please see payment information below for specific information.
Memberships are for the year, or by semester, and are non-refundable (see cancellation and refund policy below).
Payment Information
For membership plans, a non-refundable $200 deposit is required along with your registration paperwork. This deposit is deducted from your total membership fee, with the balance due August 1st for yearly memberships OR August 1st and/or December 1st for semester memberships.
Payment plans are available with arrangements. Please contact us if you need to set up a payment plan for any program. Payment plans consist of 4 installments for semester memberships and 8 installments for yearly memberships. All installments begin on August 1st and end on March 1st.
All installment payments require a credit card to be placed on file. We will no longer be able to accept cash or check payments for installment plans. Credit cards will be charged on the first of each month for each installment. A $10 installment fee and a 3.5% credit card fee will be assessed to each installment.
Yearly payment are due, in full, by August 1 and semester payments are due by December 1st. Payments not received by the 5th will incur a $50 late fee.
Workshops, Conferences, Clubs, and Camps require payment in full at time of registration.
Refunds: Refunds are available minus $200 deposit and bank fees if cancellation is made more than 30 days prior to the start of class. This does not apply to Camps.
Partial Refunds are available in the amount of 50% tuition, if cancellation is made between 7 and 30 days prior to the start of class or Camp.
There are no refunds less than 7 days prior to the start of class or camp.
Please note that all credit refunds will be reduced by the amount of bank fees. Square is no longer refunding fees to businesses when refunds are issued.
Sickness Policy:
We are not big fans of sickness and request your support in keeping other families and staff healthy.
If your child is sick, actively showing symptoms, has a fever, or has been closely in contact (household, playdate, etc) with others who are sick, we ask that you not spread the germs.
The general rule is 24 hours symptom free if a student has been sick. Allow 24-48 hours to monitor for symptoms if the student has been closely in contact with others who are sick. Close contact includes spending long periods of time with or residing in the same home.
We realize this is not always convenient, but it helps us keep sickness at bay and from being spread to others. Please note that students who arrive sick, or develop symptoms, will be sent home.
Thank you for respecting this policy and helping keep our community healthy.
Honor Code:
Integrity is a core value of Yellowwood Learning Community. Disrespectful behavior, bullying, or other behaviors which inhibit student safety and/or disrupt the trust between students and educators, do not have a place in our community.
Attendance Policy:
As a homeschool student, parents have the right to choose how and when their child is educated. Parents may choose to reduce hours, take time off for vacation, or miss days as they see fit. Membership does not require participation at all times, however days miss do not reduce membership program costs.
Weather Policy and Make-Up Days:
As a general rule, Yellowwood follows Buncombe County Schools weather cancellations. If Buncombe County determines that the roads are unsafe for travel, we will be closed. In rare occasions, we choose to be open even when Buncombe County is closed. We will announce closures and early dismissals via ClassDojo and email.
When we are required to cancel, due to weather, we do our best to allow make-ups on days your child does not normally attend. If days closed become accessible, we generally reach out to gather parent feedback on wishes to make up time. We cannot guarantee make-up days, however, but do our best to keep our community happy.
We strongly encourage parents to make the best decision for their family and circumstances when weather affects your area. Just because we are open does not mean you are required to come. Please use your best judgment before heading out on the roads.
Photo Use Policy:
Photos of students are used on our web page and social media pages for the purpose of sharing our programs with other homeschoolers and our community. We do not share names or personal information on any of our students or families. We appreciate the ability to be able to share these photos as it gives insight into the programs we offer. If you do not wish for your child’s photo to be shared, please email us to let us know.
